Dogs Not Accepted as Boarders
The following dogs are listed as the most aggressive and most likely to bite dogs on nearly every list. We will not accept the following breeds for boarding, regardless of size, gender or age:
Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Dobermans, Chow Chows, Boxers, Huskies, Dalmations, Malamutes, and any other dog that demonstrates aggression or is severely spooked during check-in. Miss Maggie’s Place is a peaceful place, for small dogs to rest easy. We cannot and will not have dogs in the home that attempt to bully other dogs or demonstrate other behaviors that would diminish the experience for the other small dogs boarding.
Assumption of Risk
Miss Maggie’s keeps dogs inside the house and dogs go outside together to use the bathroom. We strive for safety, but injuries or illness can occur. Owners are responsible for their pet's expenses, even in dog altercations (regardless of which dog is responsible), and release Miss Maggie’s (and/or homeowner) from liability for injuries or diseases except in the case of obvious negligence by Miss Maggie’s (which is not going to happen). Miss Maggie’s is not responsible for diagnosing pet illnesses. If your dog becomes more ill than just a small amount of vomiting and/or diarrhea/lethargy, the pet will be taken to Copeland Veterinary Hospital and treated and/or admitted for care. In case of undesirable behaviors, such as attacking other dogs or destruction of property, Miss Maggie’s may confine the pet. The pet may be confined to a separate den and possibly crated full-time except for feeding and going outside, alone, to use the restroom. YOU, the owner, should know if your dog is aggressive, can’t get along, and/or destroys property. You, the owner, will be held financially responsible for dog aggression and/or destruction of property and will be taken to civil court if necessary. If the dog cannot stay in the home, for example the dog exhibits extreme aggression towards me and is not able to be crated or removed from the crate without risk of injury to me or the dog, the owner must remove the pet or have the pet removed by a designated person; unused fees will be refunded. Miss Maggie’s is responsible for defining "undesirable behaviors." Keep in mind that we want return customers. We are not seeking ways to “get rid of” dogs, etc. We want your dog to stay with us. We want your dog to come back. We are simply protecting ourselves and our guests from dog conflicts due to aggressive dogs and property damage due to dogs that cannot be kept in the house or left alone for a short time. We make every effort to recognize these behaviors and prevent them prior to any incident. For example, if a dog shows signs of separation anxiety and property destruction, that dog will likely be crated if the property owner needs to leave the house for a short while. Video cameras are located inside and outside of the home. Dogs that destroy personal property while left alone will be identified and video will be shown to the Owner to collect damages. Again, our goal is a peaceful environment and return customers. But we have to protect our guests and ourselves as well.

Medical Liability
Should Miss Maggie’s Place facilitate veterinary care for the dog, the Owner assumes full financial responsibility for all resulting medical expenses. We will make every attempt to contact the owner prior to taking the dog to the veterinary hospital. If we cannot reach the Owner, and the dog appears to legitimately require veterinary care, we will take the dog in for care and possibly leave the dog at the veterinarian overnight or longer. Additionally, the Owner releases Miss Maggie’s Place from liability for any incidents during pet transportation. The Owner authorizes Miss Maggie’s Place to charge their credit card for all medical and related costs. Again, this would be rare, but possible. Especially if the dog is very senior.

Dog Abandonment
Owner agrees and acknowledges that Miss Maggie’s Place, in accordance with applicable law, has a possessory lien upon the dog until all applicable charges have been paid by the Owner. Owner (or an authorized representative of Owner) understands and agrees that if the dog is not picked up from Miss Maggie’s Place within THREE DAYS, (72 hours) after the scheduled date of departure without full payment of charges to that date, the Pet shall be deemed to be abandoned. Dogs abandoned at Miss Maggie’s Place will be turned over to a local dog rescue or the Putnam County Animal Shelter. Miss Maggie’s is not a foster care facility, a rescue facility, or a place to “dump” dogs. If you cannot pick up your dog on the scheduled day, communicate with us and work something out. You can pay with your credit card over the telephone. But abandoned dogs, with no communication from the Owner, after three days, will be treated as “abandoned.”

Payment
Full payment for boarding fees and requested services are due upon check-in of the dog(s). Additional required, but not requested services, such as a flea bath or property damage, must be paid upon check-out. Check out time is 11 AM. Dogs left after 11 AM will be charged day care fees ($25) until 5 PM, at which time the fee will be the full boarding fee. If you know you will be here at, say, 12:15 PM, just communicate with us and we will work it out. Customers are charged the full overnight boarding fee for the first night, regardless of check-in time. It is understood that Miss Maggie’s Place is considered “closed” after 5 PM daily. Arrangements can be made, but generally, our “open” hours are from 8 AM to 6 PM daily. If you need to check-in or check-out your dog outside of our “open” hours please make arrangements in advance. Outstanding balances are subject to pursuit of payment in small claims court or civil court.

Damage to Property Caused by Dog(s)
The owner agrees to pay, in full, for all damages caused to Miss Maggie’s Place’s home, furniture, floors, and otherwise. For example, but not limited to: The owner’s dog destroys the door molding by the front door, or the owner’s dog chews up the sofa or other furniture. Cameras are inside and outside the house and if Miss Maggie’s Place can prove the Owner’s dog is responsible for the damage, the Owner is responsible for paying for all damage, in full, prior to discharge.

Leaving Dogs Alone During Boarding
I run a web design and web services business out of my home. This is what allows me to be home and be able to board dogs. However, It is assumed that I may need to leave boarded dogs alone for short periods of time for typical reasons, such as going to the store, etc. Inform Miss Maggie’s Place if your dog can “go for rides” with Maggie and I to the store and be left alone in the car (with heat or A/C running as needed). Dogs are welcome to “go for a ride” with us if the owner approves and the dog can be trusted to not leap out of the car in the parking lot, etc. Boarded dogs will NOT be left alone for extended periods of time (ie: hours) under any normal circumstances and the dog door will generally be blocked when dogs are left alone. Dogs will be left INSIDE the home when left alone. Owner should inform Miss Maggie’s Place if their dog should be crated when left alone. The Owner knows their dog and their dog’s behaviors. It is the Owner’s responsibility to inform Miss Maggie’s of potential issues and/or accept responsibility for the actions of the dog.

Flight Risk/Digging Under Fence Risk, Aggression, Separation Anxiety
It is assumed that the Owner is aware of the habits, traits, and personality of their dog. The Owner should make Miss Maggie’s Place aware of any special behaviors the dog may exhibit, such as digging under fences and trying to escape, destroying furniture when unattended, destroying the home when unattended etc. Miss Maggie’s Place can make an effort to deal with these behaviors if told in advance. Dogs are dogs and they have dog behaviors. We are prepared to deal with each dog on it’s own terms. But it will be obvious to Miss Maggie’s Place if the dog has substantial, repeated behavior issues such as aggression and destruction of property. If the behaviors are obviously part of the dog’s personality and Miss Maggie’s Place is not informed, the Owner will assume full responsibility.

Contract
This document serves as a contract between boarding facility (Miss Maggie’s Place) and the Owner. If the owner is not able to pay due to a health emergency, death, or otherwise, the owner’s family and/or heirs are responsible for the contract, in full. Outstanding balances are subject to full legal action in Putnam County, Tennessee.
